Times are different

The choice of specialisation in Neurosurgery is much sought after all over world. The major change is because development of diagnostic methods. Pre CT scan and MRI era, neurosurgeons had to carry out angiograms, ventriculograms, pneumocephalograms which itself carried morbidity and occasional mortality. The neurosurgical operations have become very safe but still there is significant morbidity as glioblastoma and deep-seated tumours still present a great challenge. Trauma to brain is a dynamic process and many times frequent CT scans are required, and as brain swells around contusions or haematomas produce mass effect which was not there initially. Learning places have to be high volume where specially neurotrauma is admitted.
